Senator Shehu Sani (APC-Kaduna Central) has said that increase in minimum wage by the federal government is realistic and would help get rid of corruption.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have demand for a new monthly national minimum wage of N66,500.

Sani on his twitter handle promised to bring up the issue of minimum wage during Senate plenary and he will support it.

The lawmaker wrote, “Labour’s demand for new minimum wage is realistic and should be complied with.

“I will fully support it on the floor of the senate when the issue is presented.

“A good wage is one of the most potent wedge against corruption.”

The NLC and TUC have demanded that the Minimum Wage Act should be amended every five years.

The workers added that the review of the minimum wage would boost aggregate demand, which would further provide a boost to the economy, coming out of recession.
