Adidas Makes First Ever Football Jerseys Out of Recycled Materials
The jerseys will be debuted by the University of Miami football team for their 2018 sports season starting with their game against Louisiana state in September.
The uniforms are made 70% out of a raw yarn material that is woven from fishing nets and other kinds of pollution that were recovered from oceanic environments.
The Hurricanes team says that they are excited to be wearing the new uniforms, which were developed in partnership with ocean conservational group Parley for the Oceans.
“This partnership gives our student-athletes an opportunity to make a difference in our community by promoting sustainability efforts on campus, around South Florida – and across the globe,” said athletics director Blake James.
Additionally, the uniforms are set to be auctioned off to raise money for an educational research fund at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.
