Dodo, Wins 'Best Student Paper' In Portugal

Bashir Dodo,  PhD candidate who hails from Katsina State of Nigeria, has won 'Best Student Paper' at the BIOIMAGING 2018 conference in Portugal, for introducing a new algorithm which could improve the speed and accuracy of diagnosis for certain eye diseases.

The doctoral candidate, Bashir Dodo, currently studying at Brunel University London, Department of Computer Science, demonstrated a new algorithm for OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) equipment which can automatically segment images of the retina into distinct layers.

Speculations are that the new technique, which can separate the retina into seven individual layers, could improve the accuracy and speed of diagnosis, and help save the sight of patients by identifying damage earlier.
