Four people have been killed after a convenience shop and flat collapsed following a massive explosion in Leicester.

Four other victims remain in hospital - one with serious injuries - after the blast in Hinckley Road last night, police say.

Officers believe there may also still be people unaccounted for, as emergency crews continue a "search and rescue" operation at the site.

Superintendent Shane O'Neill, of Leicestershire Police, said the devastating incident "at this stage is not being linked to terrorism".

Supt O'Neill said today: "There are four confirmed fatalities at this stage and a number of people still undergoing treatment in hospital.
