Winnie Mandela, has died at the age of 81.
Winnie was the ex-wife of the late Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first black president.
They were married from 1956 to 1996.
Winnie held several government positions during her political life.
She was also head of the African National Congress' Women's League.
Family spokesman Victor Dlamini said Mrs Mandela "succumbed peacefully in the early hours of Monday afternoon surrounded by her family and loved ones" following a long illness, which had seen her go in and out of hospital since the start of the year.
