Roberto Mancini Confirmed As Italy Coach
Roberto Mancini |
Italy have confirmed former Inter Milan and Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini as their head coach.
According to Italian football federation (FIGC), Mancini has been saddled with a task of reviving the fortunes of the four-time world champions, who failed to qualify for this year’s World Cup.
The Europeans have been without a substantive coach since Gian Piero Ventura was dismissed after the World Cup failure.
Italian FA commissioner Roberto Fabbricini said Mancini has been chosen because he “had a great desire to sit on the Italy bench and he proved it in a concrete way.”
“It went the way we wanted, we are happy and Roberto is happy,” Mancini told reporters after the contract was signed in Rome.
“Tomorrow (today) will be the official presentation at Coverciano, it will be the formalisation of a long-standing discussion.
“We’ll explain everything about the contract tomorrow, he's very happy and so are we.”
Mancini arrived in Rome on Monday morning after parting company with Russian club Zenit Saint Petersburg at the weekend.
