Saudi Arabia Announces Thursday Start Of 2018 Ramadan As Moon Observers Sight No Crescent

The Ramadan fasting will begin on Thursday all over the world, according to Saudi Arabia officials.

Wednesday is the last day of the Islamic month of Shaaban, local report indicates.

The beginning and end of Islamic months are determined by the sighting of the new moon.

Saudi Arabian moon observers said there was no sight of the Ramadan crescent on Tuesday, meaning millions of Muslims around the world will begin the holy month on Thursday.

According to reports on Saudi Arabian state TV, as published by Arab News, bad weather made observation of the crescent difficult.

According to Egypt’s Mufti, the country’s top religious authority, the holy month will begin on Thursday in the most populous Arab country.

Also, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Iraq’s Sunni Muslim minority also announced that the holy month of Ramadan will begin on Thursday.

During Ramadan, Muslims are to abstain from eating, drinking and smoking from dawn to dusk.
