Trump Says US Will Not Be 'Migrant Camp' Amid Child Separation Crisis

Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump has vowed never to allow his country become a “migrant camp” as he faced increasing pressure to stop families being separated.

The separation is being carried out as a deterrent to illegal immigration.

Trump said, “The United States will not be a migrant camp, and it will not be a refugee holding facility.”

The US President made this known in a speech he delivered at the White House on Monday.

“You look at what’s happening in Europe, you look at what’s happening in other places, we can’t allow that to happen to the United States. Not on my watch,” he added.

An estimated 2,000 children have been separated from their parents or guardians over six weeks, according to US authorities.

This started since the Trump administration announced that all migrants illegally crossing the Mexican border would be arrested, regardless of whether the adults were seeking asylum.

Since children cannot be sent to the facilities where their parents are held, they are separated from them.
