German Chancellor Angela Merkel 'Respects' Mesut Ozil's Decision To Retire From International Football

Chancellor Angela Merkel has said she respect Mesut Ozil’s decision to quit playing football for Germany.

The Arsenal midfielder called time on his international career with former world champions because of the ”treatment” he received from the German Football Association (DFB).

In a statement on Monday, Merkel’s spokeswoman, Ulrike Demmer, said the chancellor appreciate the midfielder for his contribution to the national team.

“The chancellor values Mesut Ozil highly. He is a footballer who has contributed a great deal to the national team.

“He has now made a decision that must be respected,” he added.
