Vatican: Pope Accepts Resignation Of Archbishop Philip Wilson Convicted Of Child Abuse Cover-Up

Pope Francis
Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Philip Wilson, the Australian archbishop convicted of concealing abuse by a notorious paedophile priest in the 1970s, the Vatican said Monday.

“The Holy Father Francis accepted the resignation of the pastoral government of the Archdiocese of Adelaide (Australia), presented by S.E. Mons. Philip Edward Wilson,” the Vatican said in a statement.

An Australian court in May found the Catholic archbishop guilty of concealing child sexual abuse in the 1970s.

Wilson becomes the most senior Catholic in the world to be charged and convicted of the offence.

He was found to have covered up the abuse of altar boys by a paedophile priest colleague in New South Wales.
