US forces in Africa says they have carried out an airstrike near the Libyan desert town of Bani Walid, south-east of the capital Tripoli on Tuesday.
The US says one Islamic State member was killed in the raid, which was carried out in co-ordination with the UN-recognised Libyan Government.
IS lost its base in the city of Sirte in 2016 and sought to regroup in the desert.
Earlier, a ceasefire was agreed following clashes between rival militias in the southern suburbs of the capital. The violence left five people dead and dozens wounded.
