Nigeria’s women’s basketball team finished eighth at the 2018 FIBA World Cup in Tenerife Spain following their 73-72 loss to Canada in a classification game on Sunday.
It was the first time any side from Africa finished eighth at a FIBA world event.
The African Champions, who were stopped from advancing in the quarter-finals by hugely fancied United States, lost the first quarter 21-17 but fought back to win the second 18-9.
Thereafter, the two teams battled to a 19-19 stalemate in the third quarter.
The Canadian ladies later opened a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter as they eventually edged the tireless Nigerians.
