Nigeria Outclass Libya In Africa Cup Of Nations Qualifying Match

Odion Ighalo
The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday brightened their chances of qualifying for the African Cup Of Nation in Cameroon next year with a commanding 4-0 thrashing of Libya.

China-based Odion Ighalo led the way with a hat-trick in the match played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Gernot Rohr’s side had strolled past Seychelles in their last outing, but there was no late drama in a one-sided affair in Uyo.

Ighalo enjoyed some good fortunes to secure his treble as the Super Eagles go into their return leg in Sfax as second-best team in Group E.

The Changchun Yatai striker grabbed the first goal from the penalty spot after a blunder from the Libyan goalkeeper in the second minute.

In the 58th minute, Arsenal’s midfielder, Alex Iwobi, delivered a lovely pass to Ighalo who maintained his composure, dribbled the goalkeeper and scored his second goal for Nigeria. He completed his hat-trick 10 minutes later after latching on a cross from Ahmed Musa.

Samuel Kalu completed the Super Eagles victory at the 91st minute.

The Super Eagles are second on the table with six points from three matches behind South Africa who are on seven points.
