Authorities in Saudi Arabia are reported to have released Prince Khaled bin Talal who was arrested for criticising a crackdown on corruption.

Reports say he was held for criticising last year’s mass detention of more than 200 princes, ministers and businessmen over allegations of corruption.

The prince, who was held for nearly a year, is a nephew of King Salman.

His relatives shared pictures on social media showing the prince greeting his family.

According to analysts, intense pressure on Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, may have played a significant part in the release of the prince.

The royal family is understood to be working towards shoring up support from within.

“Thank god for your safety,” tweeted Prince Khaled’s niece, Princess Reem bint Alwaleed, posting images of him with other family members.
