Ojukwu's Oldest Son Dies At 62

Sylvester Ojukwu
Sylvester Ojukwu, the first son of the late Biafra warlord, Emeka Chukwuemeka Odumekwu Ojukwu, has died at the age of 62.

It was gathered that Ojukwu slumped and later died on Friday at a private hospital in Lagos state, southwest Nigeria.

The source, however, told national daily Vanguard that the family had yet to officially issue a statement to this effect.

But it was learned that the family has already opened a condolence register for the deceased.

Ojukwu had been battling with Bianca, his father’s last wife, over ownership of property belonging to the deceased warlord.

His father was a Nigerian military officer, who served as the military governor of the Eastern Region of Nigeria in 1966.

Colonel Odumegwu-Ojukwu declared Eastern Nigeria a sovereign state, which he named Biafra, on 30 May, 1967. This led to a civil war that lasted for three years before the Biafra secessionists surrendered to the Nigerian government.
