Tanzania's High Court Rules To Keep Death Penalty

The High Court of Tanzania held that there is insufficient evidence to contest the death penalty, meaning it will stay in place, reports the BBC.

Human rights activists have complained that it is unconstitutional because it violates the right to life.

Although, no one has been executed in Tanzania since 1994.

Some 500 convicts in Tanzania's jails face the death penalty or have seen their sentences changed to life prison terms.

More than 10 African countries across Africa still have the death penalty.
