German Utilities Firm RWE To Close Its Last UK Coal Plant
German energy company RWE is planning to close its last coal plant in the UK.
After half a century, the Aberthaw power plant in Wales will be shut down, leaving only four coal plants in service in the UK following a series of closures.
The UK used coal for just 5 percent of its electricity last year and went completely without coal-generated energy for more than a week ago this year.
Coal is set to be banned as the UK moves towards meeting its climate objectives from 2025 onwards.
