Apple Confirms Mac Pro Redesign Is Coming In 2019

Apple has said the much-awaited refresh to its Mac Pro line-up is in the works and that a completely new Mac Pro is set for launch some time in 2019

Last year Apple held a small meeting for selected media to basically confirm that it is working on a new Mac Pro. This was brought on by growing complaints with the Mac lineup, especially the Pro line, which constituted the MacBook Pro that had a disappointing launch and the Mac Pro, which, now five years old, is thoroughly outdated.

A year after that meeting, Apple once again held a small meeting for media where once again it reaffirmed its commitment to the Pro segment. It was during this meeting that the company confirmed that the new Mac Pro will be coming in 2019.

This was confirmed to TechCrunch in an interview with Apple’s senior director of Mac hardware product marketing.  who said the following about the device.

“We want to be transparent and communicate openly with our pro community, so we want them to know that the Mac Pro is a 2019 product. It’s not something for this year.” In addition to transparency for pro customers, there’s also a larger fiscal reason behind it.

“We know that there’s a lot of customers today that are making purchase decisions on the iMac Pro and whether or not they should wait for the Mac Pro,” said Tom Boger.

“There’s a lot we still don’t know about the device. First and foremost, we’re unsure what shape it will take. The trashcan-style design of the Mac Pro was divisive, yet it was an integral design decision from Apple to enable a more modular setup with easier access to core components like memory and graphics.

“As we said a year ago working on modular was inherently a modular system and in looking at our customers and their workflows obviously that’s a real need for our customers and that’s the direction we’re going,” Boger said in the interview.
