Eight persons including a pastor, his wife and three children, were killed and 95 houses burnt after unknown gunmen invaded Abonong and Zayit communities in Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau yesterday Wednesday, August 29th.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, Terna Tyopev, said the attackers hit the community in the early hours of Wednesday and also carted away about 310 cows.

“When we received information that Abonong and Zayit communities were being attacked, we quickly mobilised and rushed to the affected areas. But, when we approached the areas, the attackers sighted us and took to their heels. When we eventually entered the attacked settlements, we found that eight persons were killed, 95 houses burnt, while 310 cows were stolen,” he said.

Tyopev said that the bandits also stole food stuff and and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.

“As we speak, security has been beefed up in the areas to forestall further attacks,” he said.

A relative of the pastor and his family killed in yesterday's attack, Gyang Nuhu, shared graphic photos of the deceased on his Facebook page and narrated how he got the sad news

''I woke up this morning only to see missed calls from mum and my elder brother, on calling my brother back he told me that uncle, his wife and children were murdered yesterday in cold blood and burnt to ashes in his home (foron in barkin ladi) by Fulani herdsmen. Rev. Adamu Gyang Wurim may your soul and those of the departed rest in the Bossom of our Lord Jesus Christ Amen.  On this note I want to call on the government of the day to please intervene.''

Recall that in June, an attack alleged to have been carried out by suspected herdsmen in Barkin Ladi community, left over 100 persons including women and children, dead. The attack caused a national outcry for the Federal government to do everything possible to stop the tide of killings in Plateau state and the Nation at large.
