James Ibori Loses Appeal Against UK Graft Conviction
James Ibori (C) |
Mr Ibori was jailed in the UK after pleading guilty to laundering nearly $65m (£50m) in 2012.
He was released in December 2016 and deported to Nigeria having served half of his 13-year jail sentence.
Though based in Nigeria, the former Delta state governor, appealed against his conviction. He alleged that a police officer who investigated him was himself corrupt.
Three appeal judges dismissed his case saying that the corruption of the police officer was not proven, Reuters news agency reports.
Mr Ibori had enjoyed a jet-setting lifestyle, buying multi-million dollar properties in England, South Africa and the United States as well as luxury cars.
At the time of his arrest, he was in the process of buying a $20m Bombardier private jet.
